Sybil Hill Carter is a contemporary artist whose gouache paintings explore quiet moments found in nature. She began this series in 2022 after studying with artist Anna Rhodes in Carmel-by-the-Sea, where she discovered a deep connection to the expressive possibilities of gouache.

Drawn to its luminous color and delicate layering, Sybil embraced the medium for its ability to capture atmosphere and emotion in small, intimate landscapes. Gouache, a water-based paint used by artists for centuries, allows her to work intuitively while maintaining clarity and vibrancy in each piece.

Each painting is finished with a protective water-based wax, and most works are framed with museum glass to preserve their subtle detail and color.
