About the Artist — Sybil Hill Carter

 

 

Sybil Hill Carter is a contemporary American painter and mixed-media artist based in Colorado. Known for her expressive use of color, movement, and layered materials, Sybil Hill Carter has created and sold hundreds of paintings that now live in private collections and homes across the United States.

Her recent body of work, Flowers and Orbs, represents a fresh evolution in her artistic practice. These paintings explore color, circular forms, and rhythmic motion through a distinctive mixed-media blend of ink, acrylic, and resin. The result is a vibrant visual language that reflects both spontaneity and thoughtful composition.

Living in the Colorado Rocky Mountains deeply influences Sybil Hill Carter’s work. Daily walks in nature, time spent gardening, and quiet moments of meditation often spark the ideas that later emerge in her paintings. Sybil’s connection to art began early in life. Growing up in Dallas, Texas, she frequently visited galleries and museums throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area with her family. Creativity was encouraged at home; her father was a self-taught abstract painter whose work was exhibited at the Dallas Museum of Art. Watching his process helped shape Sybil’s appreciation for artistic independence and expressive freedom.

Before focusing fully on painting, Sybil Hill Carter and her twin sister worked internationally as fashion models, traveling from Dallas to Italy and Switzerland. During this time, she lived in Puerto Rico for a year, where she studied art at the Art League School in Old San Juan while continuing her modeling career. Exposure to different cultures, design aesthetics, and fashion influences continues to inform her colorful visual style.

In 2020, Sybil and her sister purchased and operated a gallery space along the river in Colorado, where Sybil exhibited her work and continued developing her artistic voice. The gallery was successfully sold in 2025, allowing her to focus fully on painting and expanding her studio practice.

Today, Sybil Hill Carter continues to create vibrant contemporary paintings inspired by nature, color, and movement. She lives and works in Colorado with her husband, her creative daughter, and two beloved poodles who are often nearby while she paints.
